What is Fascial Counterstrain

Fascial Counterstrain (FCS) is a gentle, hands-on manual therapy technique designed to identify and release protective tension patterns throughout the body’s tissues and systems. The body naturally responds to injury, inflammation, or stress by creating protective reflexes within muscles, nerves, fascia, blood vessels, ligaments, organs, and other connective tissues. In some cases, these protective patterns may persist long after the initial injury has healed, contributing to pain, restriction, tenderness, and dysfunction.

Fascial Counterstrain works by carefully identifying these areas of dysfunction and gently positioning the body in ways that reduce strain and allow the affected tissues to relax. This therapeutic “counterstrain” approach helps calm protective reflexes, decrease tension, and improve the body’s ability to move and function more comfortably. Treatment is gentle, noninvasive, and designed to support the body’s natural healing processes while helping reduce pain, improve mobility, and restore overall function.
